UNDATED (AP) _ On this date in 2005, Coretta Scott King, the widow of assassinated civil rights leader Martin Luther King Junior, died in Rosarito Beach, Mexico. She was 78 years old.
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Natalie Cole says it's a question she still gets asked often: why would someone like her, with a famous family and a great voice, get hooked on drugs? She says she did some poking around, asking other celebrities who became addicts _ and found most of them had low self-esteem. She says in her case, she felt that no matter what she did, she felt her name wasn't Natalie Cole _ but ``the daughter of Nat King Cole.'' She also says falling in with a bad crowd didn't help. Cole eventually kicked her habit, but not without cost. She had hepatitis C _ a disease she says was probably caused by her drug use. She also suffered kidney disease _ but is doing better now that she has received a donor organ.

ETTA JAMES: FUNERAL FOR SINGER HELD IN CALIFORNIA
GARDENA, California (AP) _ It isn't often that a funeral includes a statement from the President of the United States. But that was just one of the tributes Etta James received during her funeral service Saturday at a church south of Los Angeles. The eulogy was given by Al Sharpton, who also read the president's statement. Barack Obama said James ``will be remembered for her legendary voice and her contributions to our nation's musical heritage.'' Some of James' fellow musicians were involved in the tribute. Stevie Wonder performed three songs, including a harmonica solo. Christina Aguilera also sang _ and said she has performed James' signature hit ``At Last'' at every concert as a tribute to the legendary singer.
James died January 20 after battling leukemia and other ailments, including dementia. During her career, she won four Grammys _ including a lifetime achievement honor _ and was also inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. During one of the inaugural balls, President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama danced to ``At Last,'' which was performed by Beyonce.
